It’s an airy, aesthetic and theatrical exhibition of Japanese fashion from the 1980s to the present in Barbican centre. Introducing the most well-known Japanese fashion designers such as Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto.

As curator Catherine Ince says of the exhibition, ”it is very much a Japanese concept and it has been a fabulous privilege to see these magnificent garments coming out of their boxes.” You can sense Japanese spirit of Wabi-Sabi in the journey of displaying from the see through silver paper curtain devices to the individual sculpture-like garments with the defining characteristics of minimalist lines, deconstructed detailing and a fusing of traditional and cutting-edge techniques. A very powerful and inspirational show!
