M. Night shot to fame in 1999 with his film The Sixth Sense,
which celebrated turning 25-years-old in August.
Shyamalan recently opened up about that film’s impact on his career in an interview with People.
‘At this point, there’s so many generations of people
that have watched [my] different movies,’ the director said.
He added that some, people ‘only know me from [2015 movie] The Visit from then on, so they don’t even know about The Sixth Sense.
So when I think about that, it’s wild.’
‘Each movie, I feel this way — that I don’t know if it’ll ever get made.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get to make another one… “If this is the last one, I want it to just represent me,”‘ he
continued.

Shyamalan, who was born in Mahé India but grew up in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, released two films in the 1990s before The Sixth Sense.
That set off a string a big hits for the filmmaker that includes Unbreakable
(2000), Signs (2002) and The Village (2004), that ultimately ended with the release of Lady In The Water (2006), which barely covered
the $70 million budget.
His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8 million while working
with a $40 million budget 25 years ago.
To date, the film made $6.6 million on its first
day, including an estimated $2.2 million from the Thursday night previews.

Following on from 2019’s psychological thriller from director Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as clown Arthur Fleck who has descended into mental illness.
Folie à Deux begins with Arthur behind bars in Arkham
Asylum, waiting to see whether he will be judged sane enough to
stand trial for the murders he committed two years prior.
In the meantime he is enjoying his celebrity status with fellow prisoners and even the warders, one of whom, a sadistic Irishman played by Brendan Gleeson, feeds him cigarettes in return for jokes.

Lady Gaga plays Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel, a fellow inmate on her way, fans believe, to becoming
Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn.
The pair hit it off at a music therapy class, and are soon mutually smitten,
but Lee makes it clear that she loves the dangerously charismatic Joker, ‘clown prince of crime’, not the gloomily
introspective Arthur.
Eventually, after Arthur’s high-profile TV appearance with a
smug interviewer played by Steve Coogan, it is time for the
trial, with all of Gotham gripped by the subject of multiple personality disorder.
His lawyer (Catherine Keener) strives to show that Joke is accused of five
murders, rather than Arthur. Lee just as urgently wants him to identify as his
demonic alter ego.
In the final scenes, Arthur renounces his Joker alter-ego and is found guilty of first-degree murder.
As he is being sentenced a car bomb detonates outside the court, with two
people helping Arthur escape, but he is later caught by the police and taken back to Arkham.
In the Asylum a young patient begins to tell Arthur a
joke, before stabbing him in the stomach and while he bleeds to
death, carves a smile into his own face.
It raises questions surrounding the Joker’s true identity,

instead he was just the person who inspired the man who eventually became him.

Director Todd, told Entertainment Weekly: ‘When those guards kill that
kid in the [hospital] he realises that dressing up in makeup, putting
on this thing, it’s not changing anything.
‘In some ways, he’s accepted the fact that he’s always been Arthur Fleck; he’s never been this thing that’s been put upon him, this idea that
Gotham people put on him, that he represents.
‘He’s an unwitting icon. This thing was placed on him, and he doesn’t want to live as a fake anymore — he wants to be who he is.’
The movie serves as a follow-up to Phoenix’s 2019 box office hit, which was simply titled Joker.
The Todd Phillips-directed musical was released in theatres
on October 4, following an October 2 international release.

Lady Gaga fans are begging the singer to do
a global tour – two years after her last tour,
The Chromatica Ball.
The pop superstar, 38, is preparing to release her seventh album,
with fans hoping this will lead to a string of concerts.
However, a Live Nation spokesperson confirmed: ‘There is no 2025 tour planned.’
The Sun reports that Lady Gaga will instead tour in 2026.
It comes as the hitmaker is set to release her new song Disease on Friday, as the first single from her forthcoming seventh album.

in town for Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut The Room Next Door while Nicole Kidman is screening her erotic thriller Babygirl on August 30.
Pupi Avati’s The American Backyard will close the festival on September 7.

WASHINGTON, Jan 25 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International
Inc should not be allowed to claim its iQOS electronic tobacco product
is less risky than cigarettes, U.S. health advisers said on Thursday, dealing a blow to the company as it seeks to strengthen its portfolio of alternative nicotine devices.
The recommendation is not binding and the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration could still allow Philip Morris to
make such a claim, but some analysts think the agency might ask for additional data first.
“It’s a process,” said Bonnie Herzog, an analyst at Wells Fargo.
The FDA will likely approve the request eventually, she
said, “but timing is tough to predict.”
Philip Morris, which has spent more than $3 billion to develop products that can counteract the decline
in traditional cigarette sales, said it was encouraged by some of the committee members’ comments that iQOS
may have risk-reduction potential.
“We are confident in our ability to address the valid questions raised by the Committee with the FDA as the review process for our application continues,”
Corey Henry, a Philip Morris spokesman, said in a statement.
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb recently proposed a broad tobacco policy shift that
would reduce nicotine in cigarettes to “non-addictive” levels while increasing development of lower-risk
alternatives for those unable to quit.
IQOS is a sleek, penlike device that heats tobacco but
does not ignite it – an approach Philip Morris says produces far lower levels of
carcinogens than regular cigarettes. It is
used by nearly 4 million people in 30 markets outside
the United States but needs FDA authorization to
be marketed in America.
Last month, a Reuters investigation described irregularities in the
clinical trials that supported Philip Morris’ iQOS application to the FDA.

The company’s shares fell 2.8 percent to close at $107.49
on Thursday, after falling as much as 6.8 percent.
Matthew Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco Free
Kids, said panelists “identified that serious questions remain” about the company’s application.
He said it could amend the application and the panel’s recommendation does not rule
out an ultimate approval.
The panel said Philip Morris had not proven that iQOS
reduced harm compared with cigarettes. It did conclude that
the product exposes users to lower levels of harmful chemicals but said the company had not shown that lowering exposure
to those chemicals is reasonably likely to translate into a measurable reduction in disease or death.
Philip Morris needs to show both in order to claim in its marketing materials that the product reduces a user’s exposure to harmful chemicals.
Some panelists were concerned that not all the
harmful or potentially harmful chemicals in iQOS were lower than in cigarettes.
Philip Morris presented data showing an overall exposure reduction of about 95 percent.
“The negative recommendations did not come as a surprise,” said Gregory Conley,
president of the American Vaping Association. He said the panelists “disconnected themselves from the facts in favor of ideology.”
The FDA is expected to decide whether Philip Morris can sell iQOS within the next
few months. It will decide separately whether to authorize the modified-risk claims.
There is no time frame for when that decision might come.
If cleared, iQOS would be sold in the United States by Philip Morris’ partner Altria Group Inc.
Altria shares closed 2.3 percent lower at $69.91.

BELFAST, Dec 10 (Reuters) – Northern Ireland lawmakers on Tuesday voted
in favour of continuing key parts of post-Brexit trade rules for the region, but opposition from pro-British unionist politicians
triggered an independent review into the arrangements.
The specific arrangements for Northern Ireland, which shares an open border with European Union (EU) member
Ireland, have dominated politics in the British-ruled region for years,
and led to a two-year boycott of the devolved assembly by the main pro-British party until the rules were tweaked in January.
The assembly voted by 48 votes to 36 to continue to follow EU rules
on the free movement of goods to avoid the need for a hard border with Ireland, the first so-called
democratic consent vote allowed for under the Windsor Framework deal.
Unlike legislation on devolved matters that
requires the support of a majority of both Irish nationalists and unionists, the vote needed a simple majority and was backed, as
expected, by all nationalists and the cross-community Alliance Party.
However the total opposition from unionists, who want to
remove the remaining trade frictions between Northern Ireland and
the rest of the United Kingdom, means London must do
an independent review into the functioning of the
trade rules.
“The government remains committed to implementing the Windsor Framework in good faith and protecting the UK internal market, in a way that offers stability and works for Northern Ireland, for businesses, and for traders,” Britain’s Northern Ireland Minister Hilary Benn said in a statement.
The scope for any changes to the framework under this review will be extremely limited, said David Phinnemore, politics professor
at Queen’s University Belfast.
Polling conducted by Queen’s University during 2024 indicated that 56% of voters
in Northern Ireland wanted lawmakers to vote in favour of continuing
with the trade rules, while just under a third wanted them to vote against.
The lack of unionist support also means the next consent vote will take place in four years’ time, rather
than eight had a majority of unionists and nationalists backed

IQOS ILUMA product in October.
The company at its investor day said that while the PMTA timeline remains “hard to predict”,
it expects the launch of the ILUMA heated tobacco units towards
the second half of its three-year forecast period of 2024
to 2026.
IQOS heats up packets of ground tobacco but does not burn them, a
process the company says potentially results in fewer health risks than traditional smoking
A PMTA is required to sell new tobacco products in the United
States, with manufacturers required to provide scientific data demonstrating a
product is appropriate for the protection of public health.

PARIS (AP) – Not even a tense tête-à-tête in the gold medal game could spoil the vibe at Paris´ biggest beach party.
Canada´s Brandie Wilkerson and Brazil´s Ana Patrícia got
into a finger-pointing shouting match across the net in the
tiebreaking third set of the beach volleyball final of the
Paris Olympics on Friday night. The referee tried to keep the peace, but it was the Eiffel Tower Stadium DJ who cooled tempers
on the sand by playing John Lennon´s “Imagine” over the PA system.
The players laughed and clapped. The crowd applauded and sang along.
Wilkerson was shown a yellow card.
The top-ranked Brazilians left with the gold medal.
“We`re competitors and we are fighting for the same thing: There´s only one gold medal,”
Wilkerson said during a post-match news conference in which the two laughed and jokingly put up their fists as if they were going to brawl it out.

“Immediately after the game, it´s all love and respect,” she said.
“We bring out the best in each other, and I´m honored to play against this team.”
Ana Patrícia and Duda rallied from an 11-5 deficit to take the
first-to-21, win-by-two first set 26-24, and Canada won the second
21-12. Brazil opened up a 12-7 lead in the first-to-15 tiebreaker when, after a joust at the net, Wilkerson and Ana Patrícia began pointing fingers
at each other.
The second referee, the one at sand level, moved out to separate the two players, but Wilkerson continued to argue and picked up a
yellow card. As the Brazilians got into position to serve for
the next point, the DJ began playing “Imagine,” the late Beatle’s song calling for unity and peace.
The message resonated with the players.
“What a beautiful opportunity we have to play the finals under the Eiffel Tower against the best in the world,” Wilkerson said.
“Like, that, in of itself, is a win.”
Wilkerson told reporters afterward that it was all a misunderstanding: She was responding to her family, cheering in the crowd behind the Brazilians, and Ana
Patrícia thought Wilkerson was taunting her.
“We´re pretty amped up, partners are coming in, refs are coming in. So it was a bit of a mess,” Wilkerson said.
“But after the game, and even right when they came to shake our hands, still on the court, there was an immediate hug and just kind of like, `Hey, it´s all good.´”
When play resumed, it took Brazil only five more points to finish off Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes, kicking off
a party the sport’s spiritual home hadn’t seen since hosting the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games at Copacabana.
In Tokyo, the country was shut out at the Summer Games for the
first time since beach volleyball was added to the program in 1996.
Three years later, Brazil not only returned to the podium but climbed to its top
step.
With the Eiffel Tower’s strobes sparking in the background and yellow- and green-wearing fans singing and waving
Brazilian flags, the country was awarded its
first women’s gold since Atlanta. (The United States, which had
won four of the last five, was shut out in both the men’s and women’s tournaments in Paris.)
After the medal ceremony, the Canadians and Brazilians – along with the
bronze-winning Swiss – posed for selfies together.
Wilkerson and Ana Patrícia spoke to each other and hugged; there may have even been an air kiss.
“It was a game thing,” Ana Patrícia said. “Everybody wants to win. But it happens. It´s everybody trying to win, but now everything is OK.”
Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes will return to Canada with the country’s first beach volleyball medal since the men won bronze at
the 1996 Atlanta Games. That team was coached by Humana-Paredes’
father.
Switzerland beat Australia in straight sets in the third-place game earlier Friday night to earn the bronze medal.
Nina Brunner and Tanja Huerberli beat Tokyo silver medalists Taliqua
Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar 21-17, 21-15 in 39 minutes.
It was the second Summer Games in a row that a Swiss team took the bronze medal, coming three years after Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré placed third in Tokyo.
On the men’s side, Sweden was set to face Germany for gold on Saturday night, with Norway and Qatar playing for the
bronze.
