The sadness of wartime creeps into the beautifully styled Call In The Cavalry. There’s a subtle, unspoken drama of a sort that can only come from the guiding hand of Grace Coddington, one that comes from the silence between a lady and her man when she can’t bare to face him but instead looks off into an imagined future that he may or may not be in. The clothes draw a contrast between two styles we associate with the era: incredibly elegant evening gowns and sparingly simple yet graceful attire.

The ankle-length silhouettes worn by Arizona Muse are the kind that translate well into a fall 2011 wardrobe: if you choose to forgo the slinky, the pleated and the sheer, a heavy yet fitted maxi skirt works just as well with a loose, effortless knit as it does with a strictly pulled-in waist.

Co-starring Jeremy Irvine and photographed by David Sims, you can find the shoot in the November 2011 issue of US Vogue.
